Its current Wikipedia page defines 'Generation Loss' as: "Anything that reduces the quality of the representation when copying, and would cause further reduction in quality on making a copy of the copy...".

When considering the process of degradation and entropy described here not only as a material state, but vicariously as a human condition – is humanity destined to repeat and amplify its same mistakes; at the cost of its own fidelity. Forming as a mixed-media intervention, GEN LOSS (CUK) features creative collaborations with local and familial stakeholders, including but not limited to; Los D.Q. (est 1989), Daisys Happy Models, Goya van der Heyden, Y'ello Sound, and Mrs Joan and Mr Leonard Guy (the artist's grandparents). GEN LOSS (CUK) is the subsequent public presentation in the Club UK (CUK) series – an ongoing body of multidisciplinary art-working and exhibition-making. Originally initiated during the Jan van Eyck Academie residency programme (2019-2020).

About Mat Do

Mat Do's interests begin with the terms and conditions of visual representation – the relationship between image (making) and self. By repurposing and reworking moments of contemporary culture, and its artefacts, he dismantles and disfigures them into other worlds of sculpture, video, performance, installation. The resulting forms become departure points through which to unpack their production and consumption within late-stage capitalism. Within this, an interrogation of values and affects plays out, revealing inherent contradictions in notions of labour, class, status and desire. From April 2019 to May 2020, Mat was a participant in the Jan van Eyck Academie international residency programme.

The artist would like to acknowledge the support of Amarte Fonds, Mondriaan Fonds and Brand Cultuurfonds Limburg.
