X Marks the Spot

John Scott, an English cartographer, made a map of Maastricht in 1673 when the city was under siege by the French. Scott was also a double agent and worked for both the English and the French and was active in Dutch garrison cities. 

We have a heroic and romantic image  of d'Artagnan, who died before the city gate of Maastricht in 1673 as a warrior for his homeland.
