SALLY Dance Company Maastricht - Dance Lab
Dance Lab is an initiative in collaboration with VIA ZUID Talent Development in the performing arts, where choreographers have been hosted for several years. Dance Lab is a workshop for innovation in dance. In the Dance Lab, dance artists find the time and space to explore new ways of telling their stories through movement and dance. Young choreographers can delve into a research question. Renowned creators choose to refine their style in SALLY's dance workshop.
In March 2024, DANSLAB on Tour #2 will premiere, and on June 19, the final performance will take place at AINSI. This will feature choreographies from a new generation of creators. The exhilarating dance performance consists of a mix of unique dance experiments where the audience also participates in creating choreography. Sellam will also share his personal solo 'Memories' with the world.
About Sellam
Sellam El Achari (FR, 2000) grew up in the northern French town of Lille. At age four, he fell under the spell of hip-hop. He taught himself to dance by imitating moves from YouTube videos and music videos. When - slightly older - he was introduced to ballet and contemporary dance, he knew for sure: he had to and would turn his passion for dance into his work. Sellam moved to Cannes where he trained at the Pôle National Supérieur de Danse (PNSD) Rosella Hightower. During his studies, he interned at the prestigious Ballet National de Marseille. But the Netherlands beckoned. So for his second internship, he chose SALLY Dansgezelschap Maastricht. It soon became clear that Sellam fit with SALLY and SALLY with Sellam. After his training, he was given a permanent place in the ensemble. Among others, he was featured in HeartBeat@School, Danslab on Tour #1 and GOD is a DJ, for which Sellam received a nomination for "Young Swan most impressive youth dance performance 2023. Since 2023, he has also been working in SALLY's Dance Lab. In this dance workshop for young creators, he started a trajectory to realize his ambition as a choreographer.
