7:00 PM - 01:00 AM | Afterparty midnight – 5:00 AM

Friday 17 April 2020 promises to be a special Art Night Out in Maastricht as we celebrate the fifth edition of Museumnacht Maastricht. 14 Art venues – including Theater aan het Vrijthof and Landbouwbelang for the first time – will bring the world of art to life with a once-in-a-night-time anniversary programme. Discover a Maastricht that goes above and beyond your wildest expectations.

With just one ticket you can enjoy extraordinary art exhibitions, breathtaking performances, fascinating historical discoveries, immersive installations and video art, exciting soundscapes and cross-overs, workshops, talks, tours, live music, and more. It's almost an art in itself to be able to take it all in. To help you experience as much as possible, we're lengthening opening times by an extra hour: our doors open at 7:00 PM!

Life of the Party

No single edition of Museumnacht Maastricht is the same. Although we do not want to spoil too much, the fifth edition promises to be an event that will get pulses racing. The ‘Lost in Space’ theme in 2019 included some far-out shows that took you on a metaphorical journey to the stars. In contrast, the 2020 edition will bring things back down to earth and closer to home. Visitors can look forward to an evening where they can discover and explore their thoughts on and feelings about art and current themes such as identity, change, and intimacy. On Friday 17 April 2020, Museumnacht Maastricht is going all in to wake up your senses – with some truly hypnotizing exhibitions and performances that'll create waves throughout the city.

The anniversary programme will be presented on our website, and keep an eye on and social media for updates! If you can't wait to jump into the world of Museumnacht Maastricht, flashback to the 2019 edition!

Night of Nights

After four amazing editions, Museumnacht Maastricht has made its mark and is here to stay. What started as a night-time adventure featuring ten different venues in 2016 has grown into a widely praised, annual artistic phenomenon to colour and connect the city in a memorable way for one evening. In addition to the 14 art venues, a large number of partners in the cultural sector, established artists, local talents, volunteers and students look forward to being part of it each year.

Peggy van Sebillen, Museumnacht Maastricht Foundation: "In a world where it seems like we prefer to build digital or physical walls, this anniversary edition will focus on what Museumnacht Maastricht represents: the universal language and power of art to connect people. Art can embody a protest, voice, or reaction to these turbulent times. Art can communicate that we don't need to fear change, the unknown, or others. We feel that this message is needed now more than ever."

14 Art venues

Although the whole city of Maastricht is buzzing during Museumnacht Maastricht, the real party will take place at Bookstore Dominicanen, Bonnefanten, Brouwerij Bosch, Bureau Europa, Centre Céramique, Drukkunstmuseum, Lumière Cinema, Marres, Museum aan het Vrijthof, Museum of Natural History Maastricht, Jan van Eyck Academy & B32 and Muziekgieterij (Afterparty). This year, we're thrilled to welcome Landbouwbelang and Theater aan het Vrijthof to the Museumnacht Maastricht line-up for the first time. Theater aan het Vrijthof will present among others the fantastic dance performance The Way You Sound Tonight (winner of the prestigious Zwaan award for the 'most impressive dance production of 2019') by Arno Schuitemaker. Read more

"Can you believe we are all made of stars?"- Judy

We are honoured to present Judy, beautifully captured by the talented photographer and director Robert Lang (Los Angeles), as the face of Museumnacht Maastricht 2020. Judy - who has only ever been known as a blow-up sex-doll and treated as a sexualized possession and a product of capitalism - just wants to be like you, feel normal, and explore the world. We will make sure she feels right at home during Museumnacht Maastricht! Read more
