Rutger Muller - Biomimicry
19:00 - 01:00
AINSI - Intro in Situ Cafe
As of mid-2020, Rutger Muller started developing prototype spatial sound systems inspired by the organic and omnipresent spatiality of natural sounds at Intro in Situ @De Timmerfabriek. Think of a long row of rustling trees, or of raindrops falling on a roof. He designed the first prototype – based on a floating parasol – together with technician-artist Paul Caron from Intro in Situ. The physical design of the final prototype was designed by Ricky van Broekhoven - which was also shown at the Maker Faire Eindhoven in 2021 and received a nomination for the Hybrid Future Challenge.
By using many small speakers, a sound – be it a rustling leaf, a babbling brook, or a chirping cricket – becomes a physical sound source. This gives a much more 'tangible' effect than eg 5.1 surround sound, in which sounds can mainly be heard 'virtually' between speakers. You can admire Prototype I, the parasol, during Museumnacht Maastricht at Intro in Situ's Muziekhuis aan de Maas!
TIP: A new development of this project will also be shown at Boekhandel Dominicanen during Museumnacht Maastricht. Rutger Muller and Ricky van Broekhoven, together with philosopher Govert Derix, will make a special contribution to the night by playing music and text from the future.
