Langzaam maar zeker zwijgen de klokken. Een eeuwenoud fenomeen dreigt te verdwijnen. Blijven de kerkklokken en carillons nog wel bestaan als kerken een andere bestemming krijgen en klokken uit torens worden verwijderd. Frank Steijns is stadsbeiaardier van de gemeente Maastricht. Hij fleurt de markt op met carillonmuziek vanuit het Stadhuis en hij speelt ook in de Sint Servaasbasiliek. De missie van Frank is om de klanken van de carillons, het immateriële erfgoed, een beschermd stadsgeluid te maken. Vier studenten en twee alumni van CMD-Hogeschool Zuyd gingen aan de slag met deze missie. Zij vertellen over het belang van carillons en hun klanken in Maastricht in een interactieve presentatie.

Slowly but surely, the bells are falling silent. A centuries-old phenomenon is in danger of disappearing. Will church bells and carillons continue to exist as churches change their purpose and bells are removed from towers?

Frank Steijns is city carillonneur of the municipality of Maastricht. He brightens up the city centre with carillon music from the City Hall and he also plays in the Saint Servatius Basilica. Frank's mission is to make the sounds of the carillons, the intangible heritage, a protected city sound. Four students and two alumni from the Communication and Multimedia Design program at Maastricht Institute of Arts (Zuyd Hogeschool) embarked on this mission. They discuss the importance of carillons and their sounds in Maastricht in an interactive presentation.
