Meet Pablo Hannon

Juggling play-work-free-time between designing for his studio Hectica and guiding students across borders at (among others) MAFAD and PXL-MAD while also contributing to many inspiring social projects including The School in Hasselt, this ice cream-loving dreamer walks the thin line between 'too' and 'much' but somehow manages to turn it into one big candy shop. You can imagine our smiles when he agreed to be one of our special Nachtwachters this year!

Time to introduce him properly:

What will definitely be on your to-do & see list during Museumnacht Maastricht 2020? And why should we follow you into the night?

I am not sure how and if I want to prepare myself in a standard program-checking-manner. I might consider setting up some rules of play or boundaries of guiding my curiosity. Maybe I should participate in some way, actively react on whatever I stumble upon. Maybe I could return the energy given with counter-energy… Still to be decided!
I do want to activate tension and stress inside me, to be thrilled during my nightly walkabout. And, As Pablo the Nachtwachter, I am looking forward to showing you the human side of Museumnacht Maastricht specifically and art in general.

What role do art and culture play in your life and why do you think art - in the broadest sense of the word - is important, now perhaps more than ever?

Recently, I was in a panel talk and I under-valued the importance of art in changing the world. During Museumnacht, I shall do the opposite. Art is everything. It is the sparkle in a conversation. It is the quest for a near-death experience. It is the answer to emptiness. Now is the time to infect and affect others with their lost ability to create, more than ever. Euphoria is my coffee.

On that note, Pablo sends us this smiley, part of the visual vocabulary of The School, an organisation where he finds art and all its consequences: JOY, for one.

The role as Nachtwachter fits Pablo like a glove as he loves to explore the night. But, he is quite the busy bee during the light of day as well! He guides students at four schools in Maastricht and Hasselt: MAMDT, MAFAD, LUCA Genk, PXL-MAD. He also coordinates and curates urban research and projects in The School, now operating from the fresh Maison Florida in Hasselt. And if that's not enough to fill his days, he also manages to design interior and graphic projects for work, draws to relax and wanders the cities when accidental gaps in his calendar occur. He walks the thin line between ‘too’ and ‘much’ as he says yes to tons of projects and opportunities and/or creates his own invitations. However, Pablo's work mingles beautifully with free time as he mixes all his projects, research, doodles and play time into one big chaotic overload of creativity and social candy shop.

Well, Pablo for President,... uh Nachtwachter! You can imagine, we are quite thrilled he said yes to our invitation!
